First edition.
First publication using the adjective "surrealist".
"To characterize my drama I used a neologism that will be forgiven because it rarely happens to me and I coined the adjective surrealist [...]" (excerpt from the preface)
The representation of the play triggered a real “Battle of Hernani” when it premiered on June 24, 1917. The story features Thérèse, who undergoes a gender transition to gain power among men. The author was inspired by the myth of the blind soothsayer of Thebes, Tiresias, while applying modern and provocative themes: feminism and antimilitarism. Illustrated by Serge Férat with 7 out-of-text drawings, one of which is reproduced on the cover.

Protected by the same splicase:
SIC, n°18 of June 1917
8 pages. Number 18 of the SIC magazine which reports on the premiere of Mamelles de Tiresias. Indeed, SIC contributed to making possible the performance of Les Mamelles de Tirésias, the play written by Apollinaire and directed by Albert-Birot. Indeed, to be able to create the piece, in the adventurous conditions of wartime, Albert-Birot made available the treasury of SIC.
