Two 4to (243x186 mm), frontispiece, (22)-48-(8)-8-715 pages and 20 folding plates / (2)-715 à 1249-(49) pages and 18 folding plates. binding : Contemporary full speckled calf, spine in six compartments, sprinkled edges. Three corners and two caps chipped. A lack of leather on both first and last compartments of the spine and one on an edge. Lack of paper on margin of plate 17 in tome 1.

Lorenz Heister (1683-1758) was a German anatomist, surgeon and botanist, very well-known at his time.
Among his numerous writings, his best-known work is "Institutiones chirurgicae", a book on surgery that was translated into several languages. It was used extensively in Japan, and was still employed as a standard text at Vienna as late as 1838.
