François Broussais (1772-1838) was a French doctor and surgeon of the Revolution and the Empire, known at one time as the "Emperor of Medicine" under the Restoration.
He is the author of a new medical doctrine, abandoned after his death, the "Broussais system" which consists in the theory that all pathologies are the consequences of tissue irritation and inflammation.
In this book, Broussais lays the foundations of this doctrine.
