Thomas Goulard (1697 -1784) was, towards the middle of the 18th century, royal demonstrator of surgery and anatomy in Montpellier and major surgeon of the military hospital of this city. We owe him "the water of Goulard", nickname taken by the solution of lead acetate that Goulard recommends, under the name of Saturn extract in his works, against a whole anthology of diseases.
