Two 4to (260x195 mm), (4)-xxviii-472 pages / (2)-536 pages and 73 plates. binding : Contemporary full mottled calf, spine gilt in six compartments, title and volume number in gilt on lettering-pieces. Caps and corners very worn, joints split but sound. Some foxing and a marginal waterstain on Volume 2; The two title pages cropped in lower and outer margin at the limit of the text.
First edition in French.
This work, one of the most of the most useful contemporary treatises of this kind, was drawn largely from Newton's work on optics.
