Sigismond Jaccoud (1830-1913) was a physician and professor of internal pathology, then a member of the Academy of Medicine (he became president in 1898). Alphonse Laveran (1845-1922) is a French military physician and parasitologist, pioneer of tropical medicine, known to have discovered, in 1880, the protozoan parasite responsible for malaria. For his research on the subject, he received the Nobel Prize in Medicine of 1907.
With Joseph Teissier (1851-1926), he wrote several medical treatises including "New Elements of Pathology and Medical Clinic", before his important treatise on Malaria.

At the end of the nineteenth century, a young doctor published a specialized journal focused on the medical news of Limoges and its region.
It is first published under the title "Revue médicale de Limoges" between 1867 and 1874 (stop of publication between October 1869 and August 1872) by a doctor alone.
In 1876, the publication resumed thanks to a collective of doctors of the Society of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Haute-Vienne, in order to maintain and transmit their knowledge and their observations.
It is the beginning of a large-scale specialized journal on a regional scale, which is published under the title "Journal de la Société de Médecine & de Pharmacie de la Haute-Vienne" which became in March 1891 "Le Limousin médical" (its publication stopped in 1914).
These medical records are ran over 47 years.
The 37 volumes of this medical journal belonged to Dr. Henri Boulland, who was General Secretary of the Society of Medicine and Pharmacy of Haute-Vienne; as shown by the signature of the physician on the first pastedowns of the volumes of the years 1893 and 1913, and the handwritten note signed by his hand in the volume of the year 1889.
The handwritten note is the explanation of a case in which Dr. Henri Boulland had to creat the first artificial pneumo-thorax, made in Limoges (September 1888).

The "Journal de médecine et de chirurgie pratiques à l'usage des médecins praticiens" was founded by the doctor Just Lucas-Championnière (1803-1858), in 1830, in collaboration with François-Hyppolyte Chaillou.
The sons of Lucas-Championnière, including Just Lucas-Championnière (1848-1913, surgeon of the Paris hospitals, member of the Academy of Sciences and member of the Academy of Medicine) take over from their father and became director as well.
Its publication runs until 1988, to consitute a collection of 159 volumes in total.

Trictrac is a two-player reasoned game that is played with dice on a deck similar to backgammon. It belongs to the family of table games.
It was very popular in France in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, at the court of Versailles and in aristocratic circles. It experienced a renaissance during the Restoration before almost disappearing in the late nineteenth century.
