Romantic heroine of the Legitimists, Marie-Caroline, daughter of the King of the Two Sicilies Francis I Xavier and Marie-Clementine of Austria, married in 1816 the Duke of Berry Charles-Ferdinand (1778-1820), son of Charles she had a son, the Duke of Bordeaux. Exiled during the revolution of July 1830, she returned to France in April 1832 and tried without success to raise the people in Vendée and Brittany with the aim of a legitimist restoration: arrested in Nantes in November 1832, she was imprisoned in Blaye. It was released in 1833.

Building on the work of his compatriot Accum, he developed lighting during the first decade of the 19th century. gas in England. In 1816, The Winsor company arrived in Paris. The first achievements, the passage of the Panoramas, the lighting of the Luxembourg and the surroundings of the Odéon arouse in the Parisian population as much approval as disapproval, enthusiasm as fear, particularly regarding the risk of the gas holders exploding . The publication of this work (which is partially the translation into French of Accum's work) supports the commercial development of gas lighting.

In 1821, he was commissioned by the French administration to define a practical method for accurately measuring the alcohol concentration of drinks. Gay-Lussac is developing a hydrometer graduated on the volumetric alcohol concentration. This gives the Gay-Lussac degree which corresponds to the percentage of alcohol in the wine for example. The law of 1824 on the taxation of alcoholic beverages uses his work. With Collardeau, a former student of the École Polytechnique, he became a manufacturer of scientific instruments and marketed his alcoholometer in 1830.
